Las Vegas, the City of Lights, is known for the it’s glitz and glam. Unfortunately, there are hardships in this entertainment capital that the media doesn’t mention.
According to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Las Vegas comes in at No. 8 on the list of cities with the largest homeless populations. Among these cities, Las Vegas has the smallest land area, making it the most densely populated homeless communities in America.
Many organizations have joined forces to tackle this epidemic including The University of Nevada – Las Vegas. The Fraternities and Sororities of UNLV hosted a Clean the World Hygiene Kit Build to support the local community and provide necessary hygiene supplies.
On April 15, 2019, UNLV’s Greek Life and a myriad of other volunteers came together, assembling and donating 300 hygiene kits. These kits were distributed to a local organization whose main focus is aiding homeless men, women and children in Las Vegas: The Las Vegas Rescue Mission. The Las Vegas Rescue Mission is not only a shelter; it also provides meals and resident-recovery programs to help men and women struggling with addiction, eager to make a change. The Las Vegas Rescue Mission distributed the 300 hygiene its to those in need in the community with the help of students from Bishop Gorman High School.
Thank you!
From the bottom of our soap bins, we would like to thank UNLV’s Greek Life for their support and contribution. It is thanks to the kindheartedness of organizations and individuals like these that our mission is possible.
